An experimental performance lecture that starts from the provocation: what if we had not one, but two bodies? Detouring through queer theory and political philosophy via pop music about the materiality of the body, the work playfully imagines the body as a multiplicity, cared for collectively rather than by individuals alone.
Contemporary artist Catherine Ryan makes performance lectures and delegated performances using humour, popular culture, and the subversion of the academic. During Adhocracy, with this work’s focus on embodiment, she will explore making a performative lecture through movement-based exercises and games, creating small conceptual vignettes of this new piece, that sits between experimental performance, musicological reflection, and academic address.
